modern anthologies is a literary magazine dedicated to finding common ground amongst youths around the world. as founders (lily and cate - bio below), writing has been a big part of expressing and coming to terms with who we truly are and where we feel we belong in this world. we hope to create a safe-haven for our readers and writers around the globe – no matter what walk of life you have experienced, you are welcome here.

Hello! We are Lily and Cate, the founders of Modern Anthologies. We are both students at Phillips Academy Andover, a boarding school near Boston, MA. We are avid writers and hope to share our passion with like-minded students around the world.
LILY L.
Hi! My name is Lily. I was raised in Beijing, China but later moved to Boston in sixth grade to go to a junior boarding school. At Beijing, I went to a British international school – I found myself curious over how life looked like for kids my age on the other side of the globe, yet I had no real way of finding out. This is what mainly inspired me to create Modern Anthologies. With my multi-cultural background, I hope to bridge the gap between physical barriers and inspire those who want to see the world: something that the six-year-old me would've liked.

Hi! I’m Cate, born and raised in sunny Los Angeles, California. Growing up as the daughter of two college professors, I was lucky to be surrounded by people who encouraged me to find and develop my voice. But as I went through public school, I began to notice how few opportunities were available for students to truly explore their interests. It made me think about how different things are at elite boarding schools like Phillips Academy, where students have access to resources and encouragement to chase their dreams. That realization led me to create Modern Anthologies. My goal is to bridge the gap between public school and elite private school experiences, giving young people everywhere a space to connect, share, and learn from each other. I’m excited to be part of a community where students from all backgrounds can come together, exchange ideas, and inspire one another.
